Prerequisite: None
To provide the student with opportunities to learn archery equipment selection and care, basic safety considerations, techniques and fundamentals of shooting. This course is designed to help each student attain, through practice, skill in the basic fundamentals of archery and to create and promote interest in archery.

I. Course Overview:
Upon successful completion of this course, the students should be able to participate safely in archery as a lifetime leisure sport.
II. Units:
Unit 1: Introduction to Archery
General Outcome:
1.0 The student should be able to demonstrate a basic understanding of archery as a sport.
Specific Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this unit, the students should be able to:
1.1 Relate the history and development of archery.
1.2 Define archery terminology.
1.3 Discuss the physical, social, and emotional values of archery.
1.4 Identify various archery sports and games derived from shooting skill.
General Outcome:
2.0 The students should be able to demonstrate how to select and care archery equipment.
Specific Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this unit, the students should be able to:
2.1 Demonstrate how to select and care for the following pieces of equipment.
2.1.1 Arrows
2.1.2 Bows
2.1.3 Shooting gloves or finger tabs
2.1.4 Arm guards
2.1.5 Quivers
2.1.6 Bow sights
2.1.7 Accessories
Unit 3: Basic Safety Consideration
General Outcome:
3.0 The students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of essential individual and group safety considerations.
Specific Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this unit, the students should be able to:
3.1 Discuss and demonstrate the safe use equipment.
3.2 Discuss and demonstrate safe shooting methods.
3.3 Discuss and demonstrate safety on the range and at the target.
General Outcome:
4.0 The students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental techniques and skills of shooting.
Specific Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this unit, the students should be able to:
4.1 Brace a bow Assume proper shooting stance.
4.2 Grip the bow.
4.3 Nock the arrow and grasp the bowstring.
4.4 Draw the string to the anchor point.
4.5 Aim
4.6 Release and follow-through.
4.7 Retrieve and score.
4.8 Analyze their performance and adjust accordingly.
Safety Precautions:
Students should be aware that participation in physical activity carries a degree of risk. Therefore, students are expected to follow instructions and safety precautions given by the instructor. Also, students must inform the instructor of any existing medical problem.
III. Expectations of the Students:
The student will:
1. Attend and participate regularly in class activities.
2. Demonstrate proper skill techniques.
3. Perform satisfactorily on class examinations.
4. Observe all safety regulations.
5. Complete written assignments.
IV. Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
Class attendance, degree of proficiency in mastering basic fundamentals of archery skills as demonstrated by shooting assignment scores, written examination on specific materials relative to the course.
